Marketing, love it or hate it, we all have to do it. As a business owner, it is sometimes difficult to determine what method of marketing is best for your business. Like most businesses, cost is an obvious and sometimes the single most important factor. Who doesn’t want the most bang for their buck?
Remember when email became popular and how excited you were to here that “ding! You’ve got mail” sound on your computer? (If the answer is no, bear with us, we understand you were born last week.) How quickly that feeling of excitement dissipated as your inbox started to get flooded with requests from your boss, annoying chain emails of promising to rain money from the skies if you forward and miscellaneous advertisements from chain retailers. No one likes turning on their computer and seeing 300 unopened emails. So the question; is email marketing irrelevant and is it still effective? We are going to say YES! It’s Cheap! For some of you, this is all you needed to hear. Yes, emailing marketing is inexpensive. You can send out a campaign for pennies per email. This is certainly less than sending out a physical postcard which would incur costs of postage, printing, hiring a brand specialist, copywriter etc. A study preformed in 2014 found that 85% of retailers consider email marketing one of their most effective techniques for acquiring new customers.
Results are Measurable
Tracking your return on investment (“ROI”) isn’t always the easiest to measure on other advertising mediums. How many people walk into a store and say “Hey, I saw your billboard.” With email marketing campaigns, the ability to see how many people opened your email, shared your email, clicked-through to your website and hence, calculate your conversion rate is readily available. The ability to analyze your campaign allows for you to toss what doesn’t work and implement what does into your future emails.
It’s Easy Peezy to customize
An email campaign is can be implemented rather quickly with limited resources. There is software out there that allows you to customize your message and target your audience. For example, do the dudes really need an email about your eyelash extension promo? Make sure the content you send your readers is relevant and valuable (unlike the chain letter aforementioned that claims money will rain from the skies). Good content that is deemed valuable by your prospect helps foster your reputation. Reputable businesses receive business!
It’s effective
A study from Exact Target claims that 77% of people prefer to receive marketing via email. Better yet, in 2013, the Direct Marketing Association stated that email marketing generates a 4300% return in investment. Yowza!! Who doesn’t like that? There are numerous studies out there on this topic but we have seen consistently that the subject line is crucial to whether or not your little email takes an express route to the trash or gets clicked. And for pete’s sake…please make sure your email campaign LOOKS good!
